In your own space, set yourself some goals for the coming year. They can be fannish or not, public or private.

All right, so...the majority of my goals for this year are to finish my major writing projects. I have two, one original fiction and one fan fiction.

Blood War is my original fiction novel I'm working on and that I hope to get the first draft of finished this year.

'Fear Street meets The Purge.'
It started with the blood sickness.
On the first day and the first hour of the New Year, nearly half of the population threw up blood. And others began crying blood.
And so began the first recorded bloodbath. Murderers and victims. Five hundred years of serial killers and those they prey on. And the third group, the bystanders, only able to stand by as violence rips through their society.

Murderers and victims. And the bystanders who let it happen. It's the way of life, here in Red View.

The fan fiction series is a Marvel Cinematic Universe themed one, which is a dark romance involving Stephen Strange and Peter Parker (the Andrew Garfield one).

When Peter 3 enters Peter 1’s dimension, he initially finds himself in a pocket dimension with Doctor Strange. Things begin to progress between them, but as the line between dimensions begins to blur, twisted events from the past begin to make themselves known. And Peter 3 crossing over from his home dimension draws the attention of an old enemy. Some people were never meant to meet….

So. Those are my two writing goals for this year.

My next goal is related to my blog, Ink of Blood. For quite a few years, I used it to write review on movies, books, TV series, video games. And then I got out of writing in it. But I hope to go back this year, which means writing at least one update post every month or so, even when I'm not writing any reviews.

And, well, the last goal isn't entirely something I have full control of, but I will (hopefully) be leaving my current job next month, to start a two-year pharmacy technician apprenticeship. So my goal related to this is to make a good impression at the different pharmacies I go to, with the ultimate goal after the two years to find a well-paying job. The current technician I'm working with has told me I could locum, which means going to different pharmacies and effectively making my own hours/work places, but...we'll see what happens after the two years.

In your own space, tell us about 3 creative/fannish resources, spaces, or communities you use or enjoy. (One or two is fine, especially if you're in a smaller fandom or like many people at the moment, fannishly adrift right now) Leave a comment in this post saying you did it. Include a link to your post if you feel comfortable doing so.

Okay, so I have a few spaces or communities that I enjoy and I am part of, which is very important to me, given that I write a kink that not many people enjoy.

The first one is Spanking World, which is a Livejournal community that can be found here. There's also a Discord community that I can provide the invite to, if anyone is interested in joining. But this is the first place I've turned to for support. I posted to SW when I broke my ankle about two and a half years ago and again when I had some really major health problems last year (broken leg that later resulted in DKA and sepsis and a long stay in the hospital before I finally escaped).

The second area is kind of blowing my own horn here. The website I created, for mine and Hope's writings (and my individual stories) that can be found here. During the initial Covid lockdown here in the UK, all I was doing was work and sleeping. So I decided to create and maintain this site. It took me a long time to transfer all of the Redeeming Grant stories over, but once everything was on the site, I felt a huge sense of accomplishment. And this is where I post all of my works (and mine and Hope's) first, before I post anything anywhere else.

Finally, for those who have Facebook, there's the AO3 Facebook group. This is a great place for meeting other fan fiction writers and also for getting writing advice. I dip in and out where it's necessary and have made use of the group to ask for advice when it comes to tagging and warnings, for instance. But because there are so many writers on there, it's also helpful to get views from people who might have firsthand experience of what you're writing.

The finale of season two of Alice in Borderland reveals something major about the world the characters find themselves in. But what do the players find when they die in the games?

So, Alice in Borderland is my new fandom of 2023. So far, I've only written one fic for it, but I fully intend to write more in the future.

So, as you can probably tell from the title, the series is a play on Alice in Wonderland. It's a Japanese show and can be watched on Netflix either dubbed, or in Japanese with subtitles.

The basic premise of Alice in Borderland is that three friends find themselves abruptly in a Tokyo that's completely deserted. The buildings are all the same, but none of their friends or family are anywhere to be seen. After trying to find answers, the three - Arisu, Karube and Chota - find themselves in a game arena.

This world isn't an easy one. Those people who have found themselves in this deserted Tokyo have to play games in order to extend their visas and therefore stay in this new world. When a person's visa runs out, they die.

There are four different types of games and these correlate to the suits in a deck of cards. Clubs are games that require teamwork; spades are games of strength or endurance; diamonds are games of logic; and hearts play with people's emotions, with their hearts. Each game is given a card value that indicates the level of difficulty, as well as how long the visa is extended by. For instance, a three of clubs is a relatively easy teamwork game that will extend a visa by three days...as long as the player/s clear or 'win' the game. Losing results in death. Trying to leave the game arena before the game is over results in death.

A good fandom always has good characters and I have two main favourite characters. This is the first one:

Chishiya is one of those dark, mysterious, interesting characters who has a hidden agenda. And, yes, he uses and manipulates people...but he's smart and engaging and very charming even so. He was immediately interesting in his first appearance, although I did think that he'd turn out to be an outright evil character! Actually, many of the characters in Alice in Borderland have a lot of depth to them. But in comparison to many of the others, Chishiya's history isn't shown until well into season two, leaving him an enigma for most of the series.

Kuina is truly amazing. On first appearance, she seems to be a pretty young woman who's just there to have a good time/have fun. However, in season one, she has a truly epic moment...and it's also revealed that she's transgender, which adds a lot more depth to her character and her journey in the series. She is a really awesome person with so much depth to her...and unlike Chishiya, who she's initially seen with and is friends with, she's very clearly a good person.

There are a lot of other characters in this series, but these two are the main ones who I like. Towards the end of season two, I actually teared up when it came to a particular scene with Kuina. Without going into too much detail, she was someone I feel like I connected to on a truly deep level. I honestly think I'd want to be friends with her if we ever met in real life.
